One of the earliest references to a game that resembles our poker comes from 10 th century China. In China, the Emperor would play a domino game with his concubines that used dominoes as playing pieces. This game may have been similar to today's Mahjong. Some historians say poker's origins can be traced to a domino-card game played by a 10th-century Chinese emperor; others claim it is a descendant of the Persian card game 'As Nas,' which dates back. With a career in the industry spanning over three decades, both as a player and on the marketing side of the industry, Turner is a true legend of the game of poker. One of his main claims to fame is that he invented the game of Omaha poker, but there's plenty else he's accomplished in his long and storied career. History of Poker
Poker is believed to have ancient roots that go back 1,000 years, with various alleged continents and cultures laying claim to poker's origins. Some say poker is traced to a Chinese emperors domino-card game played in the 10th-century. Others claim it is a descendant of 'As Nas,' a card game from the 16th century from Persia.
In America, poker's ancestry and introduction begins in New Orleans. Through this path, the closest European predecessor of poker would be a little Spanish game called Primero from the 16th century which was made popular in France in the 17th century, called 'poque' or its German equivalent, pochen. The game involved bluffing (or betting high on poor cards) as a key part of the game. It's believed the French brought Poque to North America via their colonists, when they were setting up settlements in areas including New Orleans.
The five card version for each player with a 52-card deck like we play with today, began in 1834. There are also reports that the game was played in New Orleans in 1829, with a deck of just 20 cards, and four players betting on which player's hand was the most valuable.
History of Texas Hold Em
In terms of how poker is played in 2019, the version you see played on television and the one you've tried playing at some point in your life, is Texas Hold Em. Little is known about the invention of Texas hold Em, though the Texas Legislature officially recognizes Robstown, Texas, as the game's birthplace, dating it to the early 1900s. After the game spread throughout America, Texas hold 'em was introduced to Las Vegas in 1963 at the California Club by Corky McCorquodale.
And the game has continued to make history since.
